New Class: AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test

This class prepares dogs and their handlers for the AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) test, which evaluates a dog’s ability to remain calm, well-mannered, and responsive in real-world urban environments. Building on the skills learned in the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, this course focuses on practicing polite behavior in busy public settings such as sidewalks, storefronts, and parks.

Teams will work on maintaining attention and loose-leash walking around distractions, calmly passing people and other dogs, navigating crowds and urban obstacles, and demonstrating reliable manners in stimulating environments. Handlers will learn practical training strategies to help their dogs stay focused, confident, and under control in the community.

This class emphasizes positive, reward-based training methods and real-life practice scenarios to help dogs succeed in everyday public situations. Dogs who meet the requirements at the end of the course may have the opportunity to take the Urban CGC test.

This class meets at APD for the first week and then at DIFFERENT LOCATIONS for the rest of the class! That schedule will be sent to participants.
