Classes are held at A Pleasant Dog unless otherwise indicated.
Any changes to class roster need to be made one week prior to class starting. Our refund policy is 1 week prior to the start date of your class. We will hold a $50 registration fee. This is non-refundable, but is transferable with 7 days notice.
Scholarships are available for the underserved population, contact us for more information.
We require all dogs coming to classes to be up to date on the following vaccines (for their age): Distemper, Leptospirosis, Bordetella, Rabies and a clean fecal sample on file with your vet, done within the past 6 months.
If you have two dogs from the same family, they must be enrolled in different classes, unless you have trainer approval.
Our group class roster now includes offerings from trusted community trainers. We choose only the very best trainers to hold classes at our school for dogs. Fear not, you will receive the same Pleasant service you have come to enjoy from our regular classes from these training partners. *You may be redirected to another trainer’s website if you choose one of these classes.
puppy 101
These classes are designed to help puppies up to 5 months of age learn basic manners and also resolve problem behaviors, like jumping, mouthing, and potty accidents. If your puppy has an intestinal parasite, even if they are receiving treatment, your puppy must wait to attend puppy class until the stool is clear of parasites. For puppies ages 5 months and younger. This class is not meant to address anxious behaviors like biting, barking, growling, freezing, or fleeing from people or other dogs. adult 101
This class is for dogs of all ages, puppies, adolescent dogs, and adult dogs with no previous training. Adult 101 teaches basic obedience in a fun and positive setting. We also help work on problem behaviors like counter surfing, chewing, and jumping up. This class is not meant to address anxious behaviors like biting, barking, growling, freezing, or fleeing from people or other dogs. adult 102
This class continues building on the basic behaviors started in Puppy and Adult 101. We'll also discuss topics such as working with distractions and how to prepare to fade out treats.
Prerequisite: Puppy 101 or Adult 101.

intermediate skills
Our Intermediate level class expands on the behaviors from our beginner level classes and sets your dog up for success continuing on to our advanced Canine Good Citizen class. We'll work on increasing the difficulty level for skills like Stay, Leash Walking, Leave It, and Place, and introduce new behaviors like sitting politely to greet a stranger and walking past distractions including other dogs. We'll walk through some of the next steps to getting more consistent behaviors in real life settings, too.
Prerequisite: Dogs must have completed Adult 102 or equivalent training with trainer approval, and need to be comfortable working in class around other dogs and people. If your dog has completed Adult 102 but still has a hard time seeing other dogs or strangers on leash, we can help build your dog's comfort with these distractions through private training before continuing on to Intermediate class.

Build your dog’s confidence, trust, and focus in a controlled environment while learning new skills and pattern games to help your dog cope with these tough distractions in the real world. The first week of this class is for humans only - please leave your dog at home!

Do you love going out and about with your dog but worry about managing them and your beer of coffee on a patio? Our Pleasant Patio class can help! Meet instructor Cindy at a different grand rapids local business each week to work on your pup’s patio manners. This class is suitable for dogs who are friendly around people and other dogs and do not resource guard table food.
This class is taught OFF SITE after the first week! Locations to be announced.

a pleasant hike: trail manners
This a fun and engaging 6-week trail walking class designed to enhance your dog’s fitness, and mental stimulation while exploring local parks! Each session will take you and your dog on scenic walks through nature, providing the perfect opportunity for your dog to improve leash manners and enjoy the outdoors.

Make every night Game Night! Each week we'll practice different gameified training exercises with games to focus on a range of skills from basics like leash walking and stay to silly tricks, sniffing, and beyond! This fun class is a wonderful way to challenge dogs of all training levels to keep growing in new ways.

Showcase and hone up your dog's skills with a variety of gameified training exercises! Each game night will feature different training games to focus on a range of skills from basics like leash walking and stay to silly tricks, sniffing, and beyond! Earn points throughout class for your chance to pick a prize at the end. Game Night is a wonderful way to challenge dogs of all training levels!

Interested in dog sports but not sure where to start? This is the perfect class for you! We'll sample trick training, agility, nosework, freestyle, rally, and parkour. You and your dog will learn some fun new skills each week. Find out what your dog excels in and head into one of our sport classes with a little bit of a head start.

beginner agility
This foundation class is the first class for learning agility no matter your dog’s age. Students will work on developing teamwork, and understanding communication between you and your dog. Skills learned will lead to work on obstacles. Learning will always be done in a positive manner to encourage confidence in both handler and dog. This class focuses primarily on agility obstacles and exercises with real time coaching from an experienced agility instructor.
Students get the most out of the class when they have basic skills like recall, sit, down, stay, and focus on owner, but these don’t need to be perfect and are not required. Emphasis in this class is on having fun with your dog!
This class is taught outdoors at Cedar Animal Hospital. It is subject to Michigan weather, classes may be postponed at times. We appreciate your flexibility!

EVERYDAY WONDERDOGakc canine good citizen testing
This is not a class and does not include training guidance, just an official Canine Good Citizen testing opportunity. Your dog should be able to perform the test items without treats. Please familiarize yourself with test items & rules prior to arrival.

intro to nosework
Nosework is a fun and enriching game where your dog will learn to sniff out a hidden scent! In this class we will introduce your dog’s first scent (birch) and provide you with your own scent tin to practice at home. We’ll discuss different types of indications and searches, and how to get your dog started with a clear and confident alert!

intermediate/advanced nosework
This class is for students who have already learned how to find at least one hidden scent. Continue building confidence with hidden hides, learning to find multiple scents, and strengthening your dog's indication for clearer alerts. Class will be adjusted for the level of dogs in attendance.

nosework drop in practice
This is a 60 minute Nosework group practice. Practice searches will be adjusted to dogs in attendance. This practice is open to all dogs who are finding hidden scent. You may choose to do blind searches or know where the hides are.

rally novice
This class will focus on the AKC Rally Novice signs, as well as a few skills from higher levels. Work on fine tuning your dog's obedience skills including heeling, sit, down, stay, front, finishes, and more. We will also practice sequencing signs together, work on fading reinforcement, and discuss the rules of Rally. Suitable for beginners and dogs with some prior experience. Class will adjust to the level of dogs in attendance.

This is a 60 minute trick training session open to dogs of all levels! Come try something fun and different to get your dog's brain and body working.
Dogs must be able to work in a class environment with other dogs and people.

Interested in exploring the world of Therapy Dog work? This class will allow you to polish up your dog’s manners and basic skills while introducing new distractions you may encounter in these working environments. We will also discuss the process of getting started, and how to know if your dog will enjoy therapy work. Dogs must be comfortable working in class setting with dogs & people.
